Get to Know Luis Ojeda
Luis Ojeda was born and raised in the City of Worcester, Massachusetts and is a dedicated member of the local community. As a lifelong resident, he understands issues facing the City and makes it his purpose to give back and actively demonstrate his commitment to Worcester by engaging individuals, families, businesses, and community leaders in advocating for initiatives that help to improve the quality of community life.
Residing in Worcester’s District 4 for over four decades, Luis has served as an Educator in the Worcester Public Schools for over 20 years. He exemplifies unwavering commitment to his current and former students and empowers them to make positive change. Luis is a youth sports coach and mentor, and directs programs focused on student growth and development, and creating access to advancement opportunities.
Passionate about issues concerning working individuals and families, immigrants, and local organizations, Luis believes creating opportunities for all community stakeholders to collaborate and take a proactive approach in helping to ensure local government can be responsive to prevalent needs and concerns will further community building efforts. He is focused on innovation and the development of progressive policies encompassing equitable education, public health and safety, affordable housing, and racial, social, and economic justice.
To offer solutions to citywide challenges, Luis organizes community events and has served as a volunteer member of the Board of Directors of several organizations: Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars where he helps to provide scholarships to Latino youth pursuing higher education, the Pleasant Street Neighborhood Network Center, 508 Forever Young, and Worcester Coaches 4 Change. Additional efforts include partnering with MassDevelopment on transformative development initiatives to inspire local investment and build on current momentum to improve District 4 neighborhoods and the environment.
Luis understands finding and implementing solutions to challenges is no small task, but knows everyone achieves more by working together. He aims to properly represent District 4 and beyond, and asks the people of Worcester to stand alongside and journey with him as he works to bring diverse voices to the process of making sustainable decisions.
Luis is a devoted husband and father to his three children. He is also the co-founder of TLK Sports and Worcester Team United. He holds a Master of Education in Organizational Management from Endicott College and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was recognized as an Exceptional Latino Educator by Latinos for Education and the Massachusetts House of Representatives for outstanding contributions at Claremont Academy and its extended community. Luis is also a recipient of the Worcester Public Schools Thomas Jefferson Award for public service, the Worcester Latino Dollars for Scholars Community Achievement Award, the 508 Forever Young Flowers Award, and is a Worcester Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame Inductee.
